Programme Overview

The CFIS Preschool program is designed to prepare children for the CFIS Junior Kindergarten (JK) program. We offer full and half-day preschool programmes for 3 year old children.The programme provides a gentle introduction into a second language classroom environment with licensed professional staff.

Class size is maximum 16 students (ratio of 8:1) with each class having a full-time teacher's aide. Our 'preschool wing' is designed specifically for little people. The dedicated 'gross motor' skills room ensures preschool students have the chance to move around lots during the day. It is just a small thing... but there is a washroom in most of the Preschool classrooms to make everyday school life that much easier for the little ones (and their teachers)! Optional extended programming is available for children during the Professional Days when regular school is not scheduled. We offer the following choices for the preschool programme*:

 

  • 5 Half-Days (9 a.m. - 11:25 a.m.)
  • School Days (8:35 a.m. - 3:25 p.m.)
  • 5 Full Days (7 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.)

* Students MUST turn 3 years of age prior to the start of the school year to be eligible for the programme.

 

The Preschool & JK programme is geared toward an early learning atmosphere. Our programme fosters the cognitive, social, emotional and physical development of each child in a compassionate environment. This centre-based atmosphere provides three and four-year-olds with multi-sensory stimulation, while providing an introduction to the French language.

Typical learning activities include: exploration, playing, singing, arts and crafts, dramatics and storytelling. A variety of themes are explored during the year. Vocabulary is assimilated with the help of games, puppets, listening centres and other child-oriented activities. Audio-visual materials and equipment are used to enhance learning.

Junior Kindergarten students participate in the CFIS music program taught by our Music Specialist. All preschool students are scheduled time in the gross-motor room. Field trips and presentations are integrated with designated themes to develop a well-rounded learning experience for three and four year old children.
