As preparation for the school journey, Kindergarten sets the tone for a positive and fulfilling school experience. CFIS follows Alberta Education's Kindergarten Program of Studies for French Immersion. Offering a full-day program allows CFIS teachers to add enrichment to this framework. This enrichment includes field trips, guest speakers, daily access to physical activity, music instruction by a Specialist, and enhanced language development activities, both structured (teacher-directed) and unstructured (child-directed). The small classes each have a full-time teacher's aide during instructional time. Teacher's aides also provide small-group opportunities for remedial and enrichment activities.
The program fosters the development of intellectual, social, emotional, ethical and attitudinal capacities. Guidance in new learning experiences enables the student to tackle new challenges with confidence and enthusiasm. The children learn and integrate French when expressing themselves and are introduced to classroom routines and procedures.
Preschool and Kindergarten students develop basic musical skills through singing, listening and moving. Music is used to develop stronger language skills by learning French songs, rhymes and singing games. Social skills are enhanced through the participation of group musical activities.
Provide an environment and activities that promote optimum physical development of gross and fine motor skills. Increase each child’s awareness of the relationship of his or her own body and other objects in space.
