CFIS is fortunate to have two libraries to support students and staff. Our well-established Elementary library continues to evolve and expand, while the Junior/Senior High library is in its infancy and will growth over the next few years. Our continued investment to house top quality learning and teaching resource centres demonstrates our commitment to enhancing student achievement and ensuring CFIS remains a 'cutting-edge school'.

The Elementary Library serves Preschool to Grade 6 students and is the main library through which all learning and teaching resources are processed. It currently houses thousands of titles for students to choose from with more than half of the collection in French. Located on the second floor of the school, our elementary library is geared toward providing a multitude of multimedia ranging from books, compact disks, videos, DVDs, and tapes in French, Spanish and English. Our collection starts at the Preschool level and goes all the way up to Grade 6 resources. All levels of reading have both French and English titles. We are currently expanding our collection of Spanish books and resources to support our Grades 4-6 Spanish language program.

Along with a complete resource area and tables for group work, the library allows for a relaxed atmosphere for students to concentrate on research and homework projects. An elevated platform is also available as a reading corner for younger students. Natural light entering from westward windows provide an exceptional view.

The library comes complete with teachers materials with three different sections reserved for teacher and staff use including: Professional Development, Teachers Resource materials, and Curriculum Guides. These areas have proven to be an inspiration and help to all staff members when planning and teaching their classes.

Although referred to as a library, this area on the 2nd floor of the Junior/Senior High wing is more aptly referred to as the Marcel Tremblay Learning Resources Centre (MTLRC) and will ultimately meet the multiple learning resources needs of CFIS secondary students and staff. While still in its infancy stages, the centre is home to a growing collection of multimedia ranging from books, compact disks, videos, DVDs, and tapes in French, Spanish and English. This library serves Grades 7-12 and houses our professional collection.

The library is also open after school from 3:30 - 4:30 pm for use by Grades 7-12.

The MTLRC is staffed during the lunch break and after school until 5:00 pm to enhance student access. Our dedicated staff member, Mme Catherine Carbonnell, works with grades 7 through 12 students to assist them with their homework and work directly with students who specifically require help with their Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and French Language Arts. Mme Carbonnell assumes a leadership role in the area of distance learning and distributed learning.

The MTLRC received a major facelift in 2009. Approximately $100,000 was invested in renovations, furniture and shelving. Over $25,000 was also invested in the MTLRC collection for both print and digital resources. These resources have been catalogued and are now available for circulation.

The MTLRC will meet the needs of the learner in the 21st century. This facility will ultimately:

  • house space for distance learning
  • be the conduit for distributed learning resources
  • accommodate groups wanting to work together on research projects
  • be a place for students to do online work
  • be a place where students may go to read the Calgary Herald
