Calgary French & International School (CFIS) pioneered French Immersion education in Calgary in 1969.

Today CFIS is a top-ranking independent educational facility offering a full Immersion education from Preschool to High School. French Immersion is the basis of the programme from the very beginning in Preschool and Kindergarten. Believing that all students can rise to the occasion, a third language, Spanish, begins in Grade 4 and intensive Spanish is core to the Junior & Senior High programmes. CFIS is a caring and nurturing environment that is home to over 700 students, 80 faculty and staff and many active parent volunteers.

CFIS continuously strives to achieve excellent industry practices. Our students consistently achieve outstanding results on the Provincial Achievement Testing programme. They are privileged to have access to athletic facilities – gymnasia and equipment – that are among the best in this city, supporting our well-established physical education programmes. CFIS students are fortunate to experience a rich visual arts programme - the artwork created in our two studios and displayed in our hallways is inspiring to most. The quality of our music programmes is evidenced by our students’ achievements in competitions they attend and performances at our school’s concerts. This is all the result of home and school (parents and staff) working together as partners to guide students to reach their potential.

2009/2010 marked the 40th anniversary of CFIS and ushered in a new era for the school as we celebrated the first Grade 12 graduating class. These students form a legacy of global citizens with strong academics, positive character and excellent language skills (English, French & Spanish) that will provide them with choice and opportunity throughout their lives.
