Elections for positions on the CFIS Society's Board are held at the Annual General Meeting in November each year. Please contact the Board Secretary if you are interested in applying.
The Board may use standing and ad hoc committees to explore relevant issues and to present findings to the full Board in the form of additional information or recommendations for Board action. The Board establishes committees when issues are too complex or numerous to be handled by the entire Board, or when it is efficient or otherwise desirable to do so.
For more information on ad hoc and standing committees, please see Policy #11 in the CFIS Society Board Governance Policies Manual.
The CFIS Society Board’s standing committees are outlined below.
The Executive Committee is responsible for acting on behalf of the Board between meetings of the Board, should the need arise, but all decisions and actions shall be submitted to the full Board for ratification at the next Board meeting
The Board recognizes its responsibility for the effective use of funds and its duty to govern in a fiscally responsible and cost-effective manner while carrying out the strategies required to achieve its goals. The purpose of the Finance Committee is to oversee the financial planning and reporting process. The Committee will review the CFIS processes for financial reporting, internal control, risk management, budget, audit, and compliance with laws, regulations, and organizational policies. The Finance Committee shall meet as determined by the committee chair, not less than four times per year. Meetings will be scheduled to permit timely review of the quarterly and annual financial statements and reports. The auditors will be invited to attend two meetings of the Finance Committee, as determined by the Committee Chair.
The purpose of the Policy Committee is to provide the Board with guidance through ongoing review of its policies.
The Personnel Committee is responsible for making recommendations to the Board regarding the employment of the Head of School and the human resource needs of the Board.
The CFIS Society Board is the governing body of the Calgary French & International School. The attached policies outline how the Board governs the school, creates and oversees the strategic plan, and grants power to its employee, the Head of School.
